A Highgrove corgi

Highgrove Pembroke Welsh Corgis is a small private show kennel located in Southern California between Los Angeles and San Diego. We are situated on 2 ½ acres allowing us plenty of room to enjoy our dogs. I have been involved with purebred dogs since 1976 and corgis since 1991 when we obtained our first Pembroke from Carol Barlick, of Carolee Corgis. Carolee’s Anniversary Song became our first champion and the beginning of Highgrove Corgis.

First and foremost our dogs are our beloved companions. We breed one or two litters per year when we are ready to add something new to our show team. Quality companion puppies are available occasionally. We enjoy showing at specialty shows across the country, which gives us the opportunity to visit with corgi enthusiasts and see the other corgis across the country.

I am a member of The Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of America and The Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of Southern California Breed Information The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is a small herding breed that arrived in Wales possibly as early as the ninth century. Used in Wales as a farm dog, the corgis watched over the farm and the livestock.

Today, the corgi still maintains its early ancestors, ability to herd, in addition to being our devoted companions, show dogs and performance dogs. Corgis are bright, intelligent and adaptable and love to compete in areas such as agility, obedience and tracking. They are also used as Therapy Dogs and Assistance Dogs.

Corgis are considered a wash and wear dog, but they do require regular grooming. They are a shedding breed and you can expect one to two sheds per year. We recommend a good vacuum cleaner and sense of humor to go along with it.

Corgis require training from the get go. They are an extremely intelligent breed and do best when they understand the rules. They love learning and obedience classes are a must.

All Highgrove Corgis have had their hips x-rayed, eyes checked and are Von Willebrands checked by DNA analysis.
